Everything you need to know before you sit down.
Welcome to The Family Table. We are so glad, you're here. Are you curious about how The Family Table works? Here's what families and hosts ask us most.
How The Family Table evening actually works
Browse available tables in your destination, pick the evening that feels right, and reserve your spot. Your host family takes care of the rest: the food, the welcome, the kids running around. You just show up. On this FAQ page you will find the most common answers to questions our hosts and families have.

I have questions about attending a table
How do I find dinners?
Soon, you will be able to browse our listings by destination and date. Each host shows their menu and what to expect. You'll see photos and read reviews from other families who've dined there.
What if my kids are picky eaters?
Tell the host about your children's preferences when you book. All hosts are parents like you and experienced with kids and know what they are in for. Some offer simpler options alongside the main menu but we always encourage kids to try.
Are the meals suitable for young children?
Yes. Meals are designed to be family-friendly, though some may include spices or flavors that are new to your kids.
Is The Family Table only for families?
Yes and we celebrate families in all their forms. Whether you're a single parent, a blended family, grandparents with grandchildren, or any other family setup, you're very welcome. The only requirement is that at least one child per family is present, helping us keep a warm, family-focused atmosphere at every table.
How long do guests stay?
A typical dinner runs 2–3 hours. Wrapping up is normal and easy, guests have tired kids too.
How do I book a dinner?
Select a dinner you like and submit your booking request. The host will confirm your reservation and send you details about the menu and what to bring. Payment happens through our platform.
What if I need to cancel?
Cancellation policies vary by host. You'll see the terms before you book. Cancel as soon as you know you can't make it so the host can adjust their plans.
Is it safe to eat in someone's home?
We verify all hosts and encourage reviews from guests. In the future you will be able to see ratings and feedback before booking. Trust your instincts and reach out to us if you have concerns.
Do guests bring anything?
Some bring wine or a small gift, like any dinner visit. Never expected.
Is it safe to eat in someone's home?
We think trust should be built in, not assumed. Every host completes a verified profile before they can open their table, and you can message your host before booking to ask anything you like. After every dinner, both sides leave a review, so you can see what other families experienced. And if something ever doesn't feel right, our team is one message away.
I have questions about hosting
What makes a good host?
Everyone can be a host. You don't need fancy training or restaurant experience. What matters is your willingness to share your table and create a welcoming space where families feel at home.
How far in advance do I plan?
You control your own schedule. Some hosts plan dinners weeks ahead, others prefer shorter notice. You'll see bookings and can accept or decline based on what works for you.
What if someone cancels last minute?
Cancellation are annoying but realistic as parents with young children. Check out our cancellation policy. You'll have clear expectations about refunds and notice periods before you commit to hosting.
How do I handle dietary restrictions?
Guests will tell you their dietary needs when they book. You decide whether you can accommodate them. It's perfectly fine to decline if something doesn't work for your menu or kitchen.
Can I host if I don't have kids?
Unfortunately, hosting is only possible with children. While we celebrate families in all their forms, the only requirement is that at least one child per family is present, helping us keep a warm, family-focused atmosphere at every table.
How much should I charge?
There's no fixed answer. Base your price on the meal you're offering, the time it takes to prepare, and the overall experience you're creating. As a general guide: a family-style meal runs €15–25 per adult, a more elaborate dinner €30–50+ per adult, and children aged 2–12 €8–15. Keep in mind that these are the prices guests pay. As a host, you retain 85% of the total, so factor that in when deciding what feels right for your time and effort.
What if I'm nervous about hosting?
That's natural. We'll guide you through everything before your first dinner. You'll know who's coming, how many people, and any dietary needs in advance.
Can I host multiple dinners monthly?
Absolutely. Some hosts do one dinner a month, others do several. You decide your own pace and availability. There's no minimum or maximum.
How do I get paid?
Payments go directly to you after each dinner. We handle the transaction securely and you receive your earnings within a few days of the meal.
What photos do I need for my profile?
A few photos of your table, your food, or your home, whatever shows the welcome you offer. Your children should not need to appear in any photo, and we encourage you to keep them out of frame. Guests are choosing a dinner, not a family album.
