The agreement between you and The Family Table when you host or book a meal.
Welcome to The Family Table (“the Platform,” “we,” “our,” “us”). These Terms & Conditions (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of The Family Table Platform, including our website, applications, services, and Experiences.
By creating an account, accessing the Platform, booking an Experience, hosting an Experience, or otherwise using our services, you agree to be bound by these Terms.
These Terms and Conditions apply to all services provided by The Family Table, registered with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce under number 55677983, having its registered office at Vlielandstraat 40, 1506ZK Zaandam under VAT number NL002454181B23.
Our Terms in Plain Language
We want these Terms to be understandable and transparent. They explain the rules, responsibilities, and expectations that apply when using The Family Table.
Although written in plain language where possible, these Terms form a legally binding agreement between you and The Family Table. If you have questions or do not understand any part of these Terms, please contact us before using the Platform or participating in an Experience.
1. Definitions
For purposes of these Terms:
“Platform” means The Family Table, including its website, applications, services, communications, content, and related technology operated by The Family Table.
“User” means any individual who accesses, browses, registers for, uses, or participates in the Platform or any Experience offered through the Platform.
“Host” means a User who offers, organizes, facilitates, or provides dining, cultural, or family-related Experiences through the Platform.
“Guest” means a User who books, attends, participates in, or otherwise joins an Experience through the Platform.
“Experience” means any dining event, gathering, activity, cultural exchange, meal, or related service arranged, offered, or facilitated through the Platform by a Host.
“Minor” means any individual under the age of eighteen (18), or under the age of legal majority in the applicable jurisdiction.
2. Nature of the Platform
The Family Table provides an online Platform that enables Hosts and Guests to connect for shared dining and cultural Experiences.
The Family Table acts solely as an intermediary Platform and does not:
- own, operate, manage, supervise, inspect, endorse, or control any Host, residence, meal, transportation, activity, or in-person Experience;
- employ Hosts or participants;
- provide childcare, healthcare, travel services, or hospitality services; or
- guarantee the quality, safety, legality, suitability, or availability of any Experience or participant.
All interactions, bookings, participation decisions, supervision of Minors, and use of the Platform occur voluntarily and at the Users’ own discretion and risk.
Hosts and Guests are solely responsible for complying with applicable laws, regulations, licensing obligations, safety standards, and tax requirements within their jurisdiction.
3. Assumption of Risk & Release of Liability
3.1 Acknowledgment of Inherent Risks
The Family Table acts solely as a Platform connecting Users. The Family Table does not own, operate, supervise, inspect, control, or manage Host homes, food preparation, transportation, childcare, or participant conduct.
The Family Table provides a service connecting traveling families with local Host families for shared home dining Experiences. By booking or hosting an Experience through The Family Table, you acknowledge and agree that participation in our dining Experiences carries inherent risks, including but not limited to:
- exposure to foodborne illness, allergens, communicable illnesses, or other health-related risks;
- physical injuries such as burns, cuts, slips, falls, or other accidents that may occur in residential environments;
- damage to personal property or the property of Hosts or Guests;
- interpersonal conflict, miscommunication, emotional distress, or discomfort arising from social, cultural, or family interactions;
- transportation, navigation, or travel-related incidents associated with attending an Experience; and
- risks relating to the supervision of Minors during an Experience.
Users acknowledge that such risks cannot be completely eliminated and may exist despite reasonable care taken by Hosts, Guests, or The Family Table.
3.2 Voluntary Assumption of Risk
By booking, hosting, attending, or participating in an Experience through the Platform, Users voluntarily and knowingly assume the risks associated with participation, including risks of illness, physical injury, emotional distress, property damage, allergic reactions, disability, or other harm that may arise in connection with an Experience.
By creating an account, completing a booking, hosting an Experience, or otherwise using the Platform, you acknowledge and agree that:
- you have read and understood these Terms;
- you understand the inherent risks associated with participation in Experiences;
- you voluntarily choose to participate despite such risks;
- you are physically and mentally capable of participating responsibly; and
- you are responsible for the supervision, conduct, and safety of any Minors in your care during an Experience.
3.3 Release & Waiver of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, you acknowledge and agree that participation in Experiences offered through the Platform is voluntary and undertaken at your own risk.
Accordingly, you release and waive claims against The Family Table, its owners, directors, officers, employees, affiliates, agents, and representatives arising out of or relating to participation in any Experience, except to the extent caused by The Family Table’s fraud, gross negligence, or willful misconduct.
This release includes claims relating to:
- food preparation, food safety, or foodborne illness;
- allergic reactions or dietary-related incidents;
- physical injuries, accidents, slips, falls, burns, or cuts;
- property damage or loss of personal belongings;
- interpersonal disputes, emotional distress, or miscommunication;
- supervision of or interactions involving Minors;
- communicable illnesses or health-related exposures;
- transportation to or from an Experience; or
- acts or omissions of Hosts, Guests, or other third parties participating in an Experience.
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, you further waive any claims for indirect, incidental, consequential, or special damages arising from participation in the Platform or any Experience.
3.4 Indemnification
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, you agree to indemnify and hold harmless The Family Table, its owners, directors, officers, employees, affiliates, agents, and representatives from and against any third-party claims, liabilities, damages, losses, costs, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or related to:
- your violation of these Terms or applicable laws or regulations;
- your negligent, unlawful, fraudulent, or intentional misconduct in connection with the Platform or any Experience;
- damage to property or injury to persons caused by your acts or omissions, or by any Minor under your supervision;
- your failure to disclose relevant allergies, dietary restrictions, medical conditions, or other health-related information where reasonably necessary;
- your unauthorized photography, recording, or distribution of content or personal information; or
- your infringement or violation of the rights of any third party.
This indemnification obligation applies only to the extent permitted by applicable law and does not apply to claims arising from The Family Table’s fraud, gross negligence, or willful misconduct.
4. Food Safety & Allergen Disclosure
4.1 Food Safety & Residential Kitchens
Experiences offered through the Platform take place in private residential environments and may involve food prepared by Hosts rather than commercially licensed food establishments.
Hosts are expected to use reasonable care in the preparation, handling, and storage of food served during Experiences. However, The Family Table does not inspect, certify, monitor, or guarantee:
- food preparation or storage practices;
- sanitation standards of residential kitchens or dining areas;
- compliance with commercial food safety regulations or inspection standards; or
- prevention of foodborne illness, contamination, or spoilage.
Guests acknowledge that food preparation standards in residential homes may differ from those of commercial restaurants and participate in Experiences at their own discretion and risk.
4.2 Allergies, Dietary Restrictions & Health Information
Hosts may make reasonable efforts to accommodate disclosed dietary preferences or restrictions, including vegetarian, vegan, halal, kosher, gluten-free, or similar dietary requests. However, Hosts cannot guarantee that all dietary requirements, allergens, or sensitivities can be fully accommodated.
Guests are responsible for:
- communicating relevant allergies, dietary restrictions, medical conditions, or sensitivities prior to participation;
- communicating directly with Hosts where additional clarification is necessary;
- exercising personal judgment regarding food consumption and participation; and
- carrying any necessary medications or emergency treatments.
Guests acknowledge that:
- residential kitchens may involve shared preparation spaces, utensils, and ingredients;
- cross-contamination may occur; and
- allergen-free environments cannot be guaranteed.
Hosts provide allergen and ingredient information based on their knowledge and understanding but do not guarantee the completeness or accuracy of such information.
4.3 Food-Related Risks & Limitation of Responsibility
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, participation in Experiences involving food consumption is undertaken at the Guest’s own risk.
The Family Table is not responsible for:
- foodborne illness;
- allergic or dietary-related reactions;
- gastrointestinal illness or discomfort;
- unmet dietary preferences or restrictions;
- medical treatment or healthcare expenses; or
- travel disruptions or other losses arising from food prepared or served during an Experience,
except to the extent caused by The Family Table’s fraud, gross negligence, or willful misconduct.
4.4 Alcohol Safety
Alcohol may be served at certain Experiences where permitted by applicable local laws and at the discretion of the Host. By participating in an Experience where alcohol is available, Guests acknowledge and agree that:
- Guests are solely responsible for their own alcohol consumption and behaviour;
- Guests must comply with all applicable legal drinking age requirements in the jurisdiction where the Experience takes place;
- Hosts may refuse to serve alcohol to any Guest at their sole discretion, including Guests who appear intoxicated or behave in an unsafe, disruptive, or inappropriate manner;
- Excessive intoxication, unsafe conduct, aggressive behaviour, harassment, or unlawful activity may result in immediate termination of the Experience without refund;
- Guests must not operate vehicles, bicycles, scooters, or other transportation while impaired by alcohol or other substances;
- The Family Table does not monitor, supervise, or control the service or consumption of alcohol by Hosts or Guests;
- Hosts are solely responsible for complying with all applicable laws and regulations relating to the possession, service, or consumption of alcohol in their jurisdiction.
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, The Family Table shall not be liable for any injury, illness, accident, property damage, legal violation, or other harm arising from or related to the consumption of alcohol during or in connection with any Experience.
4.5 Water Safety & International Travel Considerations
Experiences may take place in different countries, regions, or local environments where water quality, food preparation standards, and public health conditions may vary.
Guests acknowledge that:
- drinking water standards and water quality may differ by location;
- international travel may involve exposure to unfamiliar food, water, or environmental conditions; and
- personal health and safety decisions relating to food and water consumption remain the responsibility of each Guest.
Guests traveling internationally are encouraged to:
- research local food and water safety guidance prior to participation;
- exercise personal judgment regarding food and beverage consumption; and
- take reasonable personal precautions appropriate to their health needs and travel destination.
Hosts may provide drinking water and beverages during Experiences but do not guarantee water quality, purification standards, or suitability for individual health conditions or sensitivities.
The Family Table encourages Guests to consult relevant public health guidance or travel advisories issued by applicable governmental or health authorities prior to international travel or participation in Experiences.
5. Health & Hygiene Requirements
5.1 Communicable Disease Disclosure
Hosts and Guests agree to act responsibly and take reasonable precautions to reduce the spread of communicable illnesses.
Guests should not participate in an Experience if they:
- are experiencing symptoms of a communicable illness, including fever, persistent cough, vomiting, diarrhea, or other symptoms that may pose a risk to others;
- have recently tested positive for or been diagnosed with a communicable disease and are advised to isolate under applicable public health guidance; or
- have been advised by a healthcare provider or public health authority to avoid contact with others.
Hosts should not host an Experience if they:
- are experiencing symptoms of a communicable illness;
- have recently tested positive for or been diagnosed with a communicable disease and are advised to isolate under applicable public health guidance;
- are unable to maintain reasonable hygiene and sanitation standards; or
- are aware of a significant communicable illness risk within the household.
All participants are responsible for following:
- applicable local laws,
- public health requirements,
- and current health guidance or recommendations issued by relevant governmental or public health authorities in the jurisdiction where the Experience takes place.
5.2 Self-Assessment & Health Responsibility
Guests and Hosts are individually responsible for:
- assessing their own health and fitness to participate;
- consulting healthcare providers if they have medical concerns;
- disclosing relevant health conditions, allergies, or medications that may affect participation;
- following reasonable hygiene practices, including handwashing and respiratory etiquette; and
- declining participation where they believe attendance may create a health or safety risk to themselves or others.
5.3 No Medical Guarantees or Health Screening
The Family Table does not:
- conduct medical or health screenings of Hosts or Guests;
- verify communicable disease status;
- guarantee a disease-free, allergen-free, or medically safe environment;
- provide medical supervision, healthcare services, or emergency medical personnel; or
- assume responsibility for illness transmission between participants.
Participation in Experiences is undertaken voluntarily and at each participant’s own risk.
Participants with compromised immune systems, severe allergies, underlying medical conditions, or other health concerns are encouraged to consult appropriate healthcare professionals before participating.
5.4 Public Health Events & Emergency Measures
In the event of a pandemic, epidemic, public health emergency, or government-imposed restriction, The Family Table reserves the right to:
- restrict, reschedule, modify, or cancel Experiences;
- implement additional health or safety requirements;
- require compliance with applicable public health measures; and
- take reasonable actions necessary to protect Users, Hosts, Guests, and the Platform.
Where required by applicable law or official government order, refunds, credits, or rescheduling options may be provided.
The Family Table does not guarantee protection from illness, exposure, or transmission of communicable diseases during participation in any Experience.
6. Minor Children & Parental Responsibility
6.1 Parental Consent & Authority
If any participant is under 18 years of age (“Minor”), the Minor’s parent or legal guardian must:
- review and agree to these Terms on behalf of the Minor;
- complete any additional consent or authorization steps reasonably requested by The Family Table;
- confirm that they have the legal authority to act on the Minor’s behalf; and
- accept responsibility for the Minor’s supervision, conduct, safety, and participation during the Experience.
Parents and legal guardians remain solely responsible for supervising Minors at all times during participation in any The Family Table Experience. Hosts are not childcare providers, babysitters, or medical professionals, and no childcare relationship is created through participation in the Platform.
6.2 Parental Acknowledgment & Assumption of Responsibility
Parents or legal guardians participating in an Experience with a Minor acknowledge and accept the risks associated with the Minor’s participation, including risks relating to:
- food consumption, allergens, or dietary-related incidents;
- physical injuries, slips, falls, burns, or other accidents;
- social interactions, emotional distress, or interpersonal conflict; and
- participation in residential home environments.
Parents or guardians confirm that they have disclosed, where reasonably necessary:
- relevant allergies, medical conditions, medications, or special needs affecting the Minor;
- any information reasonably necessary for health or safety purposes; and
- accurate emergency contact information.
Parents and guardians further acknowledge that participation in Experiences involving Minors is voluntary and undertaken at their own discretion and responsibility.
6.3 Parental Supervision & Responsibility
Parents and legal guardians remain fully responsible for the supervision, conduct, safety, and wellbeing of any Minors accompanying them during an Experience.
This includes responsibility for:
- supervising Minors in a manner appropriate to their age, maturity, and needs;
- managing allergies, medications, dietary restrictions, or medical conditions;
- making medical or emergency decisions relating to the Minor;
- transportation to and from the Experience; and
- ensuring compliance with any applicable health or safety requirements.
Hosts are not childcare providers and are not responsible for supervising or caring for Minors during an Experience. However, Hosts are expected to exercise reasonable care in maintaining a safe and respectful residential environment.
6.4 Age-Appropriate Participation
The Family Table is intended to support family-friendly Experiences. However, individual Hosts may establish reasonable preferences, limitations, or suitability guidelines regarding the ages of participating Minors.
Guests are responsible for reviewing and respecting any age-related preferences or participation requirements communicated by the Host prior to booking or participation.
Parents and guardians remain responsible for ensuring that Minors:
- behave respectfully toward Hosts, Guests, and property;
- participate in a manner appropriate to the setting and Experience; and
- comply with any reasonable rules or instructions communicated by the Host.
A Host may reasonably request that disruptive, unsafe, aggressive, or inappropriate behaviour be addressed during an Experience. Serious or repeated misconduct may result in termination of the Experience without refund where reasonably necessary for the comfort, safety, or wellbeing of other participants.
6.5 Emergency Assistance for Minors
By booking or participating in an Experience involving a Minor, the Minor’s parent or legal guardian authorizes The Family Table and the Host to:
- contact emergency services where reasonably necessary;
- provide reasonable assistance in responding to an emergency situation until emergency personnel arrive; and
- share relevant medical or emergency contact information with healthcare providers or emergency responders where reasonably necessary to protect the Minor’s health or safety.
Parents or legal guardians are responsible for providing accurate and up-to-date:
- emergency contact information,
- allergy information,
- medical conditions,
- and other relevant health or safety information relating to the Minor.
The Family Table and Hosts are not medical professionals and do not provide medical services, supervision, or guaranteed emergency response.
7. Host & Guest Conduct Standards
7.1 Guest Conduct Standards
By participating in an Experience, Guests agree to behave respectfully, responsibly, and lawfully toward Hosts, other Guests, and surrounding communities.
Guests agree to:
- treat Hosts, other Guests, and property with respect and reasonable care;
- comply with reasonable house rules or instructions communicated by the Host;
- respect the privacy, safety, and comfort of others participating in the Experience;
- comply with applicable laws and regulations;
- refrain from unlawful, dangerous, disruptive, or abusive conduct;
- avoid excessive noise or behaviour inappropriate for a residential setting;
- refrain from unauthorized photography, recording, or distribution of content or personal information;
- provide accurate booking information, including the number of attendees; and
- arrive and depart at reasonably agreed times.
Guests may not engage in:
- harassment, intimidation, discrimination, hate speech, or abusive behaviour;
- violence, threats, or conduct that endangers others;
- unlawful drug use or illegal activity;
- unauthorized attendance by individuals not included in the booking; or
- conduct that materially interferes with the safety, enjoyment, or wellbeing of others.
Where reasonably necessary, Hosts or The Family Table may suspend, terminate, or cancel participation in an Experience for violations of these standards.
Serious or repeated violations may result in:
- removal from the Platform;
- suspension or termination of User accounts; or
- other actions reasonably necessary to protect the safety, integrity, or operation of the Platform and its community.
7.2 Host Conduct Standards
Hosts are expected to provide a welcoming, respectful, and reasonably safe environment for Guests participating in an Experience.
Hosts agree to:
- treat Guests with respect, courtesy, and reasonable hospitality;
- use reasonable care in the preparation, handling, and serving of food;
- communicate known allergens, dietary limitations, or relevant household considerations to the best of their knowledge;
- maintain a residential environment reasonably suitable for hosting an Experience; and
- comply with applicable laws, regulations, and health or safety requirements relevant to their participation on the Platform.
Hosts may not engage in:
- harassment, discrimination, hate speech, intimidation, or abusive conduct;
- unlawful activity or dangerous behaviour;
- conduct that endangers the safety, wellbeing, or comfort of Guests or others; or
- misleading, fraudulent, or materially inaccurate representations regarding an Experience.
Guests acknowledge and agree that:
- Experiences take place in private residential homes rather than commercial hospitality venues;
- Hosts are independent Users of the Platform and are not employees, agents, representatives, or contractors of The Family Table; and
- Experiences may vary in style, environment, cultural norms, food preparation, and hospitality standards.
The Family Table does not inspect, supervise, certify, or guarantee:
- the quality, safety, legality, suitability, or condition of any Experience or residential environment;
- compliance with commercial hospitality or restaurant standards; or
- the conduct, actions, or omissions of Hosts or Guests.
Where reasonably necessary, The Family Table may suspend, restrict, or remove Hosts or listings that violate these Terms, applicable laws, or community standards.
7.3 Guest & Host Disputes
Guests and Hosts are encouraged to communicate respectfully and attempt to resolve disagreements directly where appropriate.
The Family Table may, at its discretion, assist in facilitating communication or informal resolution between Users. However, The Family Table does not guarantee dispute resolution outcomes and is not obligated to mediate disputes between Users.
Users acknowledge and agree that:
- Experiences are arranged between independent Users of the Platform;
- The Family Table is not a party to agreements, interactions, or disputes between Hosts and Guests; and
- The Family Table is not responsible for the acts, omissions, conduct, statements, or disputes of Hosts or Guests.
Where reasonably necessary to protect the safety, integrity, or operation of the Platform or its community, The Family Table may investigate complaints and may suspend, restrict, or terminate User accounts or access to the Platform in accordance with these Terms.
Any disputes relating to these Terms or the Platform remain subject to the dispute resolution provisions set out in Section 16.
7.4 Accessibility & Accommodation Limitations
Experiences hosted through the Platform take place in private residences and independently managed locations that may vary significantly in accessibility, safety features, layout, and accommodations.
The Family Table does not guarantee that any Experience location will be suitable for Users with mobility limitations, disabilities, medical conditions, dietary restrictions, sensory sensitivities, or other specific accessibility needs.
Guests are responsible for communicating any relevant accessibility requirements or accommodation requests directly to the Host prior to booking or participation.
Hosts are encouraged, but not required, to accurately describe known accessibility limitations within their listings or communications.
8. Account Suspension & Safety Enforcement
8.1 Right to Suspend or Remove Users
The Family Table reserves the right, at its reasonable discretion, to suspend, restrict, investigate, remove, or terminate User accounts, listings, bookings, or access to the Platform where necessary to:
- protect the safety or wellbeing of Users or Minors;
- investigate suspected violations of these Terms;
- respond to complaints, reports, or safety concerns;
- prevent unlawful, abusive, fraudulent, discriminatory, or harmful conduct;
- comply with legal obligations or requests from authorities; or
- protect the integrity, reputation, or operation of the Platform.
8.2 Safety Reporting
Users are encouraged to promptly report:
- unsafe conduct,
- harassment,
- discrimination,
- inappropriate interactions involving Minors,
- fraudulent activity,
- or violations of these Terms.
The Family Table may review reports and take reasonable action in response but does not guarantee any specific investigative outcome or enforcement action.
8.3 No Background Checks or Guarantees
Unless expressly stated otherwise, The Family Table does not conduct criminal background checks, identity verification, home inspections, or screening of Hosts or Guests.
Users are solely responsible for exercising independent judgment and caution when interacting with others through the Platform.
9. Property Damage & Liability Limitations
9.1 Responsibility for Property Damage
Guests are responsible for damage to property caused by their acts, omissions, negligence, or misconduct during an Experience, including damage caused by any Minors or other individuals accompanying them.
This may include damage to:
- the Host’s home, furnishings, or personal property;
- dishes, cookware, glassware, or household items; or
- other property directly related to the Experience.
Hosts are encouraged to report alleged property damage promptly and provide reasonable supporting information or evidence where available.
The Family Table may, at its discretion, facilitate communication or informal resolution between Users relating to property damage claims. However, The Family Table:
- is not a party to disputes between Users;
- does not guarantee compensation or recovery of losses; and
- is not responsible for property damage caused by Hosts, Guests, or third parties.
9.2 Guest Property & Personal Belongings
Guests are responsible for the security, care, and supervision of their own personal belongings during an Experience.
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, The Family Table is not responsible for:
- loss, theft, or damage to personal belongings;
- missing or misplaced items; or
- damage occurring to Guest property during or in connection with an Experience.
Guests are encouraged to:
- keep valuables secure and appropriately supervised;
- exercise reasonable care with personal belongings; and
- avoid leaving valuable items unattended in residential environments.
Hosts are not responsible for safeguarding Guest property unless otherwise required by applicable law.
9.3 Security & Personal Safety
Experiences arranged through the Platform take place in private residential environments rather than commercially operated or secured venues.
While Hosts are expected to exercise reasonable care in maintaining a safe and respectful environment, The Family Table does not guarantee:
- personal security or safety;
- protection against theft, loss, or unauthorized access to property; or
- security measures comparable to hotels, restaurants, or commercial event venues.
Guests are encouraged to:
- exercise reasonable caution and personal judgment during participation in Experiences;
- keep personal belongings secure; and
- avoid bringing unnecessary valuables to residential Experiences.
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, The Family Table is not responsible for theft, loss of property, unauthorized acts of third parties, or other security-related incidents occurring during or in connection with an Experience, except to the extent caused by The Family Table’s fraud, gross negligence, or willful misconduct.
9.4 Property Damage Cap
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, The Family Table shall not be liable for any loss of or damage to personal property occurring during or in connection with any booking, event, meal, gathering, or use of the Platform.
In the event that The Family Table is found legally liable for property damage, its total aggregate liability shall be limited to the amount paid by the Guest for the applicable booking, up to a maximum of €250 EUR.
This limitation applies regardless of:
- the nature of the claim,
- the number of incidents or parties involved,
- or the actual value of the damaged property.
Nothing in these Terms shall exclude or limit liability for:
- fraud,
- gross negligence,
- willful misconduct,
- or any liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law.
9.5 Insurance & Personal Responsibility
The Family Table does not provide insurance coverage for Hosts, Guests, participants, property damage, personal injury, illness, theft, or loss unless expressly stated otherwise in writing.
Hosts and Guests are solely responsible for obtaining and maintaining any insurance coverage they consider appropriate, including:
- homeowners or renters insurance;
- personal liability insurance;
- travel insurance;
- health or medical insurance; and
- coverage relating to activities conducted within private residences.
Hosts are solely responsible for ensuring that hosting activities conducted through the Platform comply with any applicable insurance requirements, lease agreements, homeowners’ association rules, or local laws.
Participation in Experiences arranged through the Platform occurs at each User’s own risk.
10. Photography, Video & User-Generated Content
10.1 Photography, Recording & Consent
The Family Table is designed to promote respectful, family-oriented, and privacy-conscious Experiences. Users are expected to respect the privacy, comfort, and personal boundaries of Hosts, Guests, and Minors participating in an Experience.
No User may photograph, video record, audio record, livestream, or otherwise capture or distribute images, recordings, or personal information relating to an Experience without obtaining appropriate consent from affected participants.
Before capturing, sharing, or publishing any recordings or images from an Experience, Users are responsible for:
- obtaining consent from the Host;
- obtaining consent from other identifiable adult participants;
- obtaining consent from a parent or legal guardian before capturing or sharing images or recordings of any Minor; and
- clearly communicating the intended use of such content, including personal, social media, promotional, editorial, or commercial use.
Where reasonably requested by The Family Table, consent may be documented through written confirmation, consent forms, or other reasonable verification methods.
Users may not:
- secretly record participants;
- publish or distribute content in a misleading, defamatory, harassing, exploitative, or invasive manner; or
- use recordings, photographs, or personal information in violation of applicable privacy, data protection, intellectual property, or publicity laws.
Unauthorized photography, recording, or distribution of content may result in:
- removal of content;
- suspension or termination of access to the Platform;
- cancellation of participation in an Experience; or
- other actions reasonably necessary to protect Users, privacy rights, or the integrity of the Platform.
Where applicable under privacy or data protection laws, individuals may withdraw consent for future use or processing of images or recordings.
10.2 Optional Promotional Use of Images & Recordings
Where a User voluntarily provides photographs, videos, testimonials, or other content relating to an Experience to The Family Table, or separately consents to promotional use, the User grants The Family Table a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, revocable license to:
- use, reproduce, display, publish, and share such content;
- edit or adapt content for formatting, marketing, or promotional purposes; and
- distribute content through the Platform, social media channels, marketing materials, or other promotional media.
This license applies only to content:
- voluntarily submitted to The Family Table; or
- separately authorized for promotional or marketing use through clear consent.
Users retain ownership of their content and may withdraw consent for future promotional use at any time by contacting The Family Table, subject to reasonable limitations where content has already been published or distributed prior to withdrawal.
The Family Table will make reasonable efforts to honor requests for removal of images or recordings from future promotional use where legally required or reasonably practicable.
The Family Table will not knowingly use images or recordings of Minors for promotional purposes without consent from a parent or legal guardian.
10.3 Images & Recordings Involving Minors
The Family Table recognizes the importance of protecting the privacy and wellbeing of Minors.
No User may capture, share, publish, or authorize promotional use of images, videos, or recordings of a Minor without consent from the Minor’s parent or legal guardian.
Where consent is provided for the use of a Minor’s image or recordings:
- the intended use should be clearly communicated to the parent or legal guardian;
- consent may be withdrawn for future promotional or marketing use at any time, subject to reasonable limitations where content has already been published or distributed; and
- The Family Table will make reasonable efforts to honor lawful and reasonable requests relating to the removal of promotional content involving Minors.
10.4 User-Generated Content & Social Media
Users may choose to share content relating to their Experiences on social media or other online platforms. Users remain solely responsible for the content they create, publish, or distribute.
If a User tags, mentions, submits, or otherwise shares content with The Family Table, the User represents that:
- they have obtained any permissions or consents reasonably necessary from identifiable participants appearing in the content;
- the content does not knowingly violate the privacy, intellectual property, publicity, or other legal rights of third parties; and
- the content complies with applicable laws and platform rules.
By publicly tagging or submitting content to The Family Table, Users grant The Family Table a non-exclusive, royalty-free, revocable license to repost or share such content for promotional or community-related purposes, unless the User requests otherwise.
Users remain responsible for ensuring that any images, recordings, or content involving Minors are shared only with appropriate parental or legal guardian consent.
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Users agree to be responsible for claims arising from content they create or publish in violation of applicable law or third-party rights.
10.5 Privacy & Confidentiality of User Information
Users are expected to respect the privacy and personal information of Hosts, Guests, and other participants.
Users may not publicly disclose, share, publish, or misuse another User’s personal or sensitive information obtained through the Platform or an Experience, including:
- home addresses;
- phone numbers;
- email addresses;
- private communications;
- personal identification details; or
- other confidential or non-public information.
Users also agree not to publish content that:
- unlawfully invades another person’s privacy;
- discloses sensitive personal information without consent; or
- is defamatory, harassing, misleading, or abusive.
Any use, collection, disclosure, or processing of personal information must comply with applicable privacy, data protection, and confidentiality laws.
Violations of this Section may result in:
- removal of content;
- suspension or termination of access to the Platform; or
- other actions reasonably necessary to protect Users, privacy rights, or the integrity of the Platform.
11. Cancellation & Refund Policy
11.1 Booking Confirmation & Payment Structure
Bookings are confirmed once payment has been successfully processed through the Platform.
Payments may consist of:
- a Platform service fee retained by The Family Table; and
- a Host Experience payment payable to the Host for the scheduled Experience.
Applicable fees and pricing will be displayed prior to confirmation of the booking.
Unless otherwise required by applicable law, Platform service fees may be retained by The Family Table following confirmation of a booking.
11.2 Host Payout Timing
Host payouts are processed the day after the scheduled Experience has been completed, subject to:
- confirmation of completion;
- applicable cancellation policies;
- dispute review;
- fraud prevention measures;
- payment processor requirements; and
- compliance with these Terms.
The Family Table reserves the right to delay, withhold, adjust, or cancel payouts where reasonably necessary to:
- investigate disputes, complaints, chargebacks, or suspected fraud;
- address safety concerns or violations of these Terms;
- comply with legal obligations; or
- correct processing or payment errors.
Estimated payout timing may vary depending on payment processors, banking institutions, holidays, currency conversion, or geographic location.
11.3 Guest Cancellation Policy
Guests may cancel bookings subject to the following cancellation terms:

| *Unless stated otherwise, The Family Table retains a commission of 15% on all amounts payable to Hosts, including payments arising from completed bookings and amounts payable under the applicable cancellation policy. |
11.4 Exceptions & Extenuating Circumstances
The Family Table may, at its reasonable discretion, offer refunds, credits, or rescheduling in situations involving:
- serious illness or medical emergencies;
- government-imposed travel restrictions;
- natural disasters or severe disruptions affecting travel or safety;
- death of an immediate family member; or
- other significant circumstances reasonably beyond a participant’s control.
Supporting documentation may be requested where reasonably necessary.
Nothing in this policy limits any mandatory consumer rights available under applicable law.
11.5 Host Cancellation Policy
If a Host cancels a confirmed booking:
- Guests will receive a full refund of all amounts paid for the affected booking; and
- The Family Table may, where feasible, assist with rescheduling or alternative Host arrangements.
Repeated or unjustified Host cancellations may result in:
- listing suspension,
- account restrictions,
- reduced visibility,
- temporary suspension from the Platform; or
- permanent removal from the Platform.
11.6 Force Majeure
The Family Table shall not be responsible for delays, interruptions, cancellations, or failures resulting from events reasonably beyond its control, including:
- natural disasters;
- severe weather;
- public health emergencies;
- governmental actions or restrictions;
- civil unrest or labor disputes;
- power outages, internet failures, or technology disruptions; or
- other extraordinary circumstances beyond reasonable control.
Where appropriate, The Family Table may offer refunds, credits, or rescheduling options at its reasonable discretion and in accordance with applicable law.
11.7 Refund Processing
Approved refunds will be processed within a reasonable period, typically within 14 business days, to the original payment method used for the booking.
Refund timing may vary depending on banking institutions, card issuers, or payment processors. The Family Table is not responsible for delays caused by third-party financial institutions or payment providers.
12. Payments, Taxes & Fees
12.1 Payment Processing
Payments made through the Platform are processed by third-party payment service providers.
By making or accepting a booking, Users agree to comply with any applicable terms, conditions, and policies of such payment providers.
The Family Table does not directly process or store complete payment card information and is not responsible for:
- banking delays;
- payment processing interruptions;
- chargebacks;
- currency conversion issues;
- failed transactions; or
- actions or omissions of third-party payment providers.
The Family Table reserves the right to delay, withhold, cancel, or reverse transactions where reasonably necessary for:
- fraud prevention;
- dispute resolution;
- legal compliance;
- safety investigations; or
- enforcement of these Terms.
12.2 Pricing, Fees & Payouts
Bookings may include:
- Host compensation;
- Platform service fees;
- payment processing fees; and
- applicable taxes or governmental charges.
Displayed prices may include or exclude applicable VAT or similar taxes, as indicated at checkout.
The Family Table reserves the right to modify pricing, fees, or fee structures at any time, subject to applicable law and reasonable notice where required.
Host payouts are generally processed after completion of the applicable Experience and may be subject to:
- cancellation policies;
- dispute review;
- fraud prevention measures;
- payment processor requirements; or
- compliance with these Terms.
12.3 Taxes
Hosts are solely responsible for determining, reporting, collecting, and remitting any taxes, duties, levies, or governmental charges arising from their activities on the Platform, including:
- income taxes;
- value-added tax (VAT);
- sales taxes; or
- local hospitality or tourism taxes,
where applicable under local law.
The Family Table does not provide tax, accounting, or legal advice and makes no representations regarding Users’ tax obligations in any jurisdiction.
Users are encouraged to consult qualified professional advisors regarding their obligations under applicable law.
The Family Table may collect, report, withhold, or remit taxes where required by applicable law or governmental authority.
13. Privacy & Data Protection
The Family Table processes personal data in accordance with applicable privacy and data protection laws, including the European Union General Data Protection Regulation (“GDPR”) where applicable.
By using the Platform, Users acknowledge that personal information may be collected, used, stored, and shared as described in The Family Table’s Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy.
These policies explain:
- what personal data we collect;
- how we use and protect that information;
- Users’ privacy rights;
- how cookies and analytics technologies are used; and
- how Users may contact us regarding privacy-related requests.
Users are encouraged to review the Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy carefully before using the Platform.
Nothing in these Terms limits any rights Users may have under applicable privacy or data protection laws.
14. Indemnification
14.1 User Indemnification Obligations
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, you agree to indemnify and hold harmless The Family Table, its owners, directors, officers, employees, affiliates, agents, and representatives from and against any third-party claims, liabilities, damages, losses, costs, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or related to:
- your violation of these Terms or applicable laws or regulations;
- your negligent, unlawful, fraudulent, abusive, or intentionally harmful conduct;
- damage to property or injury caused by you or any person under your supervision, including Minors;
- your misuse of the Platform or services;
- your failure to provide accurate information relating to allergies, medical conditions, dietary restrictions, or emergency contact information;
- your unauthorized recording, photography, distribution of content, or misuse of another User’s personal information;
- or any claim brought by a third party arising from your actions, omissions, or conduct during or in connection with a The Family Table Experience.
14.2 Limitation of Indemnification
This indemnification obligation applies only to the extent permitted under applicable law and shall not apply to claims arising directly from:
- The Family Table’s fraud,
- gross negligence,
- willful misconduct,
- or any liability that cannot legally be excluded or limited under applicable law.
15. Limitation of Liability
15.1 Platform Status
The Family Table operates solely as an online Platform that connects Hosts and Guests for shared dining and cultural Experiences.
The Family Table does not:
- own, operate, manage, supervise, inspect, control, or provide Host homes, meals, transportation, childcare, or in-person Experiences;
- employ Hosts or participants;
- act as a travel agency, restaurant, childcare provider, healthcare provider, or insurer; or
- guarantee the conduct, safety, legality, quality, suitability, or availability of any Host, Guest, Experience, meal, location, or activity.
Hosts and Guests are solely responsible for their own conduct, decisions, supervision of Minors, compliance with applicable laws, and participation in Experiences arranged through the Platform.
15.2 Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, The Family Table shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, special, exemplary, or punitive damages arising out of or relating to:
- use of the Platform;
- participation in any Experience;
- interactions between Hosts, Guests, or third parties;
- food preparation or consumption;
- allergic reactions or communicable illness exposure;
- injuries, accidents, or property damage occurring during or in connection with an Experience; or
- cancellation, delay, interruption, or unavailability of services.
This limitation applies regardless of the legal theory asserted, including contract, tort, negligence, or otherwise.
15.3 Maximum Liability Cap
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, The Family Table’s total aggregate liability arising out of or relating to the Platform or any Experience shall not exceed €250 or the total amount paid by the User for the applicable booking, whichever is greater.
15.4 No Liability for User Conduct
The Family Table is not responsible for:
- the actions, omissions, statements, conduct, or behaviour of Hosts, Guests, or third parties;
- the accuracy of User-provided information, listings, descriptions, or representations;
- supervision of Minors;
- disputes between Users; or
- compliance by Users with local laws, food safety requirements, licensing obligations, or insurance requirements.
Users interact and participate in Experiences at their own discretion and risk.
15.5 Mandatory Legal Rights
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot legally be excluded or limited under applicable law, including liability arising from:
- fraud,
- gross negligence,
- willful misconduct,
- death or personal injury caused by negligence where such limitation is prohibited by law,
- or violation of mandatory consumer protection rights.
16. Dispute Resolution & Governing Law
16.1 Governing Law
These Terms and any dispute, claim, or controversy arising out of or relating to the Platform, any booking, event, or use of The Family Table services shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Netherlands, without regard to conflict of law principles.
Nothing in these Terms shall limit or exclude any mandatory consumer rights or protections available under applicable law, including applicable European Union consumer protection and data protection laws.
16.2 Informal Resolution
Before initiating formal legal proceedings, Users agree to first contact The Family Table in good faith to attempt to resolve the dispute informally.
Users should provide:
- a description of the issue,
- relevant booking or account information, and
- the requested resolution.
The Family Table will make reasonable efforts to respond and attempt resolution within a reasonable period of time.
16.3 Jurisdiction
Any disputes arising out of or relating to these Terms or use of the Platform shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the competent courts of Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
Nothing in these Terms limits any mandatory rights or protections available to consumers under applicable law, including the right to bring claims before courts that may have jurisdiction under mandatory local consumer protection laws.
16.4 Injunctive Relief
Nothing in these Terms prevents either party from seeking injunctive or equitable relief in a court of competent jurisdiction where necessary to:
- prevent unlawful activity,
- protect intellectual property rights,
- protect confidential information, or
- prevent immediate harm or misuse of the Platform.
17. Severability & Modification
17.1 Severability
If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid, illegal, unenforceable, or contrary to applicable law by a court or other competent authority, that provision shall be interpreted, limited, or modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it enforceable and consistent with applicable law.
If such modification is not possible, the relevant provision shall be deemed severed from these Terms without affecting the validity or enforceability of the remaining provisions, which shall remain in full force and effect.
17.2 No Waiver of Rights
The Family Table's failure to enforce any provision does not constitute a waiver of that provision or any other rights. The Family Table reserves the right to enforce any provision at any time.
17.3 Modification of Terms
The Family Table may update or modify these Terms from time to time where reasonably necessary for operational, legal, regulatory, security, or business purposes.
Where material changes are made, The Family Table will provide reasonable notice through the Platform, by email, or through other appropriate communication methods.
Unless otherwise required by applicable law:
- updated Terms will apply to future use of the Platform and future bookings from the effective date of the updated Terms; and
- continued use of the Platform after the effective date of the updated Terms constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
If a User does not agree to material modifications, the User may discontinue use of the Platform and, where applicable, cancel future bookings in accordance with the applicable cancellation policy.
17.4 Entire Agreement
These Terms, plus The Family Table's Privacy Policy and any Host-specific house rules, constitute the entire agreement between parties. All prior agreements, understandings, negotiations, and discussions are superseded.
17.5 No Third-Party Beneficiaries
These Terms are solely for the benefit of The Family Table and Users. No third party has any rights or claims under these Terms, except as expressly stated (e.g., indemnified parties).
18. Acknowledgment & Acceptance
18.1 Acceptance of Terms
By creating an account, clicking “I Accept,” completing a booking, hosting or participating in an Experience, or otherwise using the Platform, you acknowledge and agree that:
- you have read and understood these Terms;
- you agree to be legally bound by these Terms;
- you understand that participation in Experiences involves inherent risks;
- you accept responsibility for providing accurate and complete information reasonably relevant to your participation, including relevant health, allergy, or safety information where applicable;
- you are legally authorized to enter into this agreement; and
- where you are acting on behalf of a Minor, you represent that you are the Minor’s parent or legal guardian and are authorized to accept these Terms on their behalf.
You further acknowledge that these Terms contain important provisions relating to:
- assumption of risk;
- limitations of liability;
- dispute resolution;
- privacy and data protection; and
- User responsibilities and conduct standards.
18.2 Jurisdiction-Specific Modifications
Certain provisions of these Terms may be subject to additional rights, restrictions, or protections under applicable laws in specific jurisdictions.
Where any provision of these Terms is determined to be invalid, unenforceable, or inconsistent with mandatory applicable law, such provision shall be interpreted and enforced to the maximum extent permitted by law, and the remaining provisions shall remain in full force and effect.

19. Additional Policies, Forms & Agreements
In addition to these Terms, Users may be required to review, acknowledge, or agree to additional policies, disclosures, consent forms, or agreements depending on their use of the Platform, participation in Experiences, or status as a Host or Guest.
Such documents may include, without limitation:
- Privacy Policy;
- Cookie Policy;
- Community Guidelines; and
- any additional policies, guidelines, disclosures, or safety requirements communicated by The Family Table from time to time.
By using the Platform or participating in Experiences, Users agree to comply with any applicable supplementary policies, forms, or agreements presented to them.
In the event of a conflict between these Terms and a supplementary agreement expressly applicable to a specific activity or User role, the supplementary agreement shall control to the extent of the conflict.
These Terms sit alongside our Privacy Policy, Community Guidelines, and Cookie Statement. Material changes are communicated by email at least 14 days before they take effect, and version history is preserved in our records. The version you accepted at signup remains the binding version of your agreement until you accept an updated one.
